Position Information

Morisset High School is located in the beautiful south-western Lake Macquarie and is a proud comprehensive public school that caters for over 740 Year 7–12 students. Approximately 22% of students proudly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and are well supported by the Itji-Marru Aboriginal Education Resource Centre. Evidence-informed teaching practices and high expectations create a learning culture in which all students develop their knowledge, understanding and skills. Morisset High School provides access to high-quality vocational education and training (VET) courses, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, HSC pathway support, and a Big Picture Academy that informs and inspires students to choose post-school pathways aligned to their goals. There are eleven inclusive Special Education Support classes catering for students with additional learning needs, uniquely named Malangba, meaning “Together Place” in language. An active Parents & Citizens Association (P&C) supports the school and holds high expectations for an inclusive environment that values community engagement, partnership, confidence and satisfaction.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 
Demonstrated capacity as a highly visible and effective leader who works collaboratively as a member of the school executive to strengthen a positive, high-expectations school culture and lead strategic initiatives that deliver measurable, whole-school improvement in student learning, wellbeing and engagement. 
Proven ability to provide strategic and instructional leadership to drive whole-school priorities, with a particular focus on expanding educational opportunities, strengthening vocational education and training (VET) programs, and developing coherent pathways that improve achievement, retention and post-school outcomes for all students.
Demonstrated leadership that values, builds and sustains respectful partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families and community, supporting improved educational and wellbeing outcomes, coupled with strengthening cultural identity in alignment with departmental Aboriginal education policies and priorities. 
Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to establish and maintain productive partnerships with staff, students, families, community organisations and external agencies to enhance learning opportunities, wellbeing supports and inclusive outcomes for all learners.
