Position Information

Gunnedah High School is a welcoming, comprehensive Connected Community Strategy High School. Located 78 kilometers west of Tamworth in the New England region of NSW, it serves Gunnedah and surrounding rural areas, including Boggabri, Mullaley, and Somerton. With a current enrolment of 410 students, 53% identifying as Aboriginal, the school is committed to meeting diverse student needs through tailored learning pathways and career-focused opportunities.  

The school features a Special Education Unit with five MC classes, one IM class, and a Tutorial Centre from 2025, ensuring every student is known, valued, and cared for. Gunnedah High emphasises achievement and participation in academic, cultural, and sporting pursuits, celebrating student success within the school and the broader community. General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

Proven capacity to design, implement and evaluate evidence-informed literacy and numeracy interventions that improve student outcomes, with a strong ability to analyse data to monitor progress and measure impact.

 

Proven understanding of NCCD requirements and the implementation of effective adjustments to support diverse learners and strengthen inclusive classroom practice.

 

Proven ability to effectively coordinate and deploy SLSOs to maximise student learning, engagement and wellbeing outcomes, including aligning support with targeted intervention programs.
 

Proven capacity to lead Aboriginal Education initiatives that strengthen student engagement, cultural identity, attendance, retention and post-school pathways, in alignment with the Connected Communities Strategy and its 8 Key Deliverables.


 

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
