Position Information

Woonona High School (P4) provides excellent secondary education for 850 students from Year 7 to Year 12 including high quality personalised learning for students in the Support Unit. School planning, communication and pedagogical practices focus the efforts of the whole school community on student success. Staff operate within a professional learning culture underpinned by student-centred, research-informed, innovative teaching practice and holistic approaches to student wellbeing. The school enjoys its relationship with its community of schools, a supportive parent body and the University of Wollongong. Amongst the student population are 5% with an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background and 7% language background other than English (LBOTE).

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

  1. Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching Special Education and demonstrated capacity to lead a faculty that effectively meets student needs including students with autism, mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, children with challenging behaviours, and mental health concerns. 
  2. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate quality individualised learning and support programs, including transition programs, to facilitate improved outcomes for students with a disability.
  3. Demonstrated consultative leadership and the capacity to work with the executive team to lead, manage and implement whole school priorities and initiatives.
  4. A collaborative and inclusive leader with a demonstrated capacity to lead and manage a faculty with diverse expertise through the implementation of clear systems and processes.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
