Position Information

North Sydney Boys High School is a fully selective high school with a Support Unit (Autism). It is a community-focused school, which supports and encourages students to achieve their full potential in an inclusive and caring environment based on the core values of camaraderie, commitment, compassion, integrity and respect. There is an extensive extracurricular program and diverse leadership opportunities for students. Our alumni maintain strong connections with the school and each other. The school is located in North Sydney and has an enrolment of 939 students. Students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds from across wider Sydney, with 94% of students coming from a non-English speaking background.

 

The Support Unit at North Sydney Boys High School, known as the Inclusive Education faculty, provides tailored educational programs and support for 21 students with autism in three classes. Teachers and support staff work collaboratively to meet the diverse needs of students. Students are mostly taught in discrete classes and thoroughly integrated into the life of the school, including co- and extra-curricular activities.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

1. Proven ability to lead collaborative curriculum planning with parents/carers, teachers, external providers and students with a disability to develop and implement individualised curriculum options that reflect their needs and goals.

2. Demonstrated leadership of a faculty in supporting the complex behaviour and wellbeing needs of students with a disability, applying best practice approaches to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

3. Evidence of high-level leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with an executive team and build capacity across the school community to promote and implement inclusive practices.
 

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
