Position Information

Menai High School is a comprehensive, co-educational high school located in Illawong, on the southern outskirts of Sydney region with an enrolment of 1,080 students in 2024. The student population is comprised of approximately 35% LBOTE, 13% EALD and 19 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. 

Menai High School offers an extensive curriculum with a focus on academic excellence, student welfare and extra-curricular programs. Areas of focus for the school plan are the explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy across the school, developing the learning culture and strengthening community connections. Our students are highly motivated learners who excel academically across the curriculum. The school prides itself on its academic record and on-going commitment to high standards of student improvement. 

The school is setting up a support unit of three classes for 2025; two autism classes, one multi-categorical class.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:

  1. Approval to teach Special Education, and experience and expertise teaching students with complex needs within a support unit context.
  2. Demonstrated ability to be a visible and collaborative leader with capacity to develop inclusive, trusting relationships with students, staff, families and external agencies.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to establish and lead a support unit in terms of resource management, staff development and comprehensive unit programming.
  4. Demonstrated capacity to work as a dynamic member of a school leadership team in leading whole school strategic directions; ensuring the support unit remains a fully integrated aspect of the school.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Special Notes

The commencement date for this position will be Term 4 of the 2024 school year.
