Position Information

Blacktown Boys High School has an enrolment of 904 students and is a positive learning environment, with a culture of continual improvement and collegiality. Teachers are seen as lifelong learners who provide high quality teaching and learning, leading to high student growth levels in a safe, challenging environment. As well as embedding essential skills, innovative approaches to the delivery of curriculum are at the forefront of planning, leading to the development of problem-solving skills which prepare students for the challenges of the future. Students are engaged, independent and reflective learners who take pride in themselves and their community as they journey from boys to men. The school is situated close to both road and rail transport hubs, draws on students from the local area and also permits enrolments from further afield, for those seeking a boys only environment. Blacktown Boys High School has been a Partially Selective high School since 2010, providing for the learning needs of a High Potential and Gifted stream, as well as mainstream students and a 3 class (one IM/ IO, and two MCat classes) Support Unit. The school caters for a culturally diverse student population, with high expectations for all. This is demonstrated through inclusive teaching and learning practices for every student. Blacktown Boys high School emphasises a holistic approach through the development of the whole student, with academic, sporting and cultural opportunities as well as quality extracurricular activities. BBHS enjoys positive working relationships with all major Sydney based universities and key local and CBD based businesses which combine to provide academic, social and vocational mentoring.

This position involves leading and managing a team of three inclusive education teachers and 3 school learning and support officers. The successful applicant must be qualified to teach special education. 

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria. 

  1. Approval and/or experience and expertise in teaching students with complex needs (Autism, Mild and Moderate Intellectual Disabilities and Behavioural Difficulties) within a special education or support unit context.
  2. A collaborative and inclusive leader with a demonstrated capacity to lead and manage a faculty with diverse expertise and experience to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, external agencies and school community.
  3. Demonstrated interpersonal skills that create positive relationships with stakeholders, to maximise transition programs, student engagement, wellbeing and attendance.
  4. Experience in building the capacity of staff to assess, plan and monitor interventions that support students with diverse learning needs.
