Position Information

The Educational Pathways Program is designed to improve higher education and career outcomes for young people by introducing students in NSW government high schools to a range of vocational training and employment pathways.

The Head Teacher Secondary Studies (Careers) is a non-teaching position responsible for the coordination of the Educational Pathways Program initiatives and career learning support across a group of schools. There are five positions attached to this requisition listed below. The existing base school location is listed; however, will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

  • Upper Hunter – Merriwa Central School, Muswellbrook High School, Dungog High School, Singleton High School, Cessnock High School, Mount View High School, Kurri Kurri High School (Base school)

  • Central Coast North – Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College - The Entrance Campus, Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College - Tumbi Umbi Campus, Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College - Berkeley Vale Campus, Wyong High School, Wadalba Community School, Northlakes High School (Base school)

  • Moree – Moree Secondary College (Base school), Boggabilla Central School, Wee Waa High School, Narrabri High School 

  • Armidale – Guyra Central School, Armidale High School, Uralla Central School (Base school), Glenn Innes High School, Tenterfield High School, Emmaville Central School, Walcha Central School 

  • Inverell - Inverell High School (Base school), Macintyre High School, Ashford Central School, Bingara Central School, Barraba Central School, Bundarra Central School, Warialda High School  

The Head Teacher Secondary Studies (Careers) works strategically to complement and strengthen existing careers education activities for schools in these regions and will facilitate connections with the community and local industry and build strategic relationships with school executive, staff, and other stakeholders.

Applicants are required to nominate the region they are applying for. If more than one they should rank them accordingly.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2.Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies

Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to effectively lead a productive and collaborative team and foster positive and respectful relationships to deliver successful outcomes for students.
  2. Demonstrated expertise and highly developed skills in implementing professional learning, whole school programs and initiatives.
  3. Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative partnerships and engage stakeholders within the school, across schools, parents, businesses, and industry.
Conditions

A valid NSW drivers licence is essential.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you are not a current permanent teacher in a NSW public school and do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for the Head Teacher Secondary Studies (Careers) – Educational Pathways Program position. The Head Teacher Secondary Studies (Careers) position is a full-time temporary appointment, commencing in Term 1, 2025 until 27 January 2027. The temporary appointment may be terminated early if the purpose for the employment is no longer necessary, funding for the position is no longer available or the performance is unsatisfactory.

The conditions of employment for a Head Teacher Secondary Studies – Educational Pathways Program, are school based conditions of employment as provided for under the Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020, the Teachers Handbook and other relevant policies and procedures of the department.

Substantive permanent teachers who accept a full time temporary appointment as a Head Teacher Secondary Studies (Careers), will retain right of return to their substantive school and position level at the end of the temporary appointment if they will not have been out of their substantive school based appointment for more than three years by the end of this appointment.
