Position Information

St Ives High School is a comprehensive coeducational school with a current enrolment over 1730 students. 32% of students are from non-English speaking backgrounds and the gender balance is approximately 57% boys and 43% girls. An Autism class is being established this year which will operate alongside two long established Hearing support classes. St Ives High School is also home to an Intensive English centre, a long running high performance and gifted education program and a substantial learning and support program, all of which are valued by the community. There have been significant advances in infrastructure in recent years resulting in improved teaching and learning facilities including a new gym which is about to be extended, in a joint project with Ku-ring-gai Council. The school’s curriculum is based on KLAs and the school runs a substantial wellbeing program. There is a mix of early career and experienced teachers who have played a significant role in improved HSC results in recent years. The school has an active supportive and highly engaged P&C and the community has high expectations for student involvement and achievement.

 

Northern Sydney Intensive English Centre is a regional unit attached to St Ives High School. It has a current enrolment of 220 students including 62 international students, servicing more than 36 local and regional high schools. It has a diverse group of students ranging from year 6 to year 11, with differing literacy and numeracy needs. The IEC also has students with intellectual and learning needs.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

1.    Approval to teach English as a Second Language. (ESS code)

2.    Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a team and ensure high quality teaching and learning programs, assessment, curriculum implementation and resource development to cater for EAL/D students of all ability levels.

3.    Demonstrated capacity to be involved in wellbeing programs that cater for a diverse group of student needs.

4.    Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to lead teams and foster relationships between students, parents and staff and the proven capacity to be a contributing member of the leadership team.

5.    Evidence of support for staff to establish relevant and contextual goals for their growth and development which lead to improvement.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
