Position Information

Holroyd High School is a small, successful comprehensive high school with a current enrolment of 476 students 7-12, including 86% non-English speaking backgrounds. As a proudly diverse and inclusive institution, we place a strong emphasis on visible learning to build high expectations for all students, and choice theory to foster a culture of autonomy, collaboration, and responsibility, creating a safe and nurturing environment where all can thrive.

A well-established Intensive English Centre (IEC) is located onsite as part of the school with a majority of the students coming from refugee backgrounds, including migrant students and international students. The IEC is committed to the provision of a safe and nurturing environment in which students develop English language skills to transition successfully into mainstream high school. The IEC is underpinned by high expectations of staff and students including a strong connection to parents, community, and partner organisations.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

1. Approval to teach English as a Second Language Secondary (ESS) with proven capacity to lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching and learning programs that are underpinned by IEP Framework and evidence based practices.

2. Demonstrated ability to contribute to an executive team to effectively implement the school vision as articulated in the strategic improvement plan with specific priorities relevant to an Intensive English Centre.

3. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage the complex day to day operations and resources of an Intensive English Centre.

4. Demonstrated capacity to establish effective partnerships with colleagues, parents and the broader community to enhance student  learning, wellbeing and engagement.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
