Newtown High School of the Performing Arts is a partially selective (in Dance, Music and Drama), co-educational, comprehensive school located on Gadigal Land approximately 5 kms southwest of Sydney CBD. The student population is approximately 1165. The school has an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander enrolment of 26 students. The school is strongly supported by an active and engaged Parents and Citizens Association as well as the broader community. All members of the school community have high aspirations for success. General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 
  1. Demonstrated curriculum expertise in Human, Society and its Environment (HSIE) to collaboratively and energetically lead and motivate the faculty and drive teaching excellence within a school culture of high expectations. 
  2. Demonstrated high-level knowledge and leadership capacity of evidence-informed pedagogies to motivate creative, high potential, and gifted students. 
  1. Capacity to collaboratively contribute to the success of the HSIE Faculty and the school executive team, demonstrating a shared responsibility for leading a culture of educational excellence that aligns with the school’s strategic directions and values. 
  1. Demonstrated highly developed inter-personal and communication skills to successfully lead, inspire and build upon the skills of diverse staff and students to promote a culture of teaching and learning excellence. 
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
