Position Information

Melville High School is located on Dunghutti land in the Macleay Valley serving approximately 600 students from South West Rocks to Crescent Head with a student Aboriginal population of over 30%.

It is a comprehensive, co-educational school, with a strong focus on student growth and achievement, quality teaching, restorative practices and wellbeing.

Opportunities are provided in academic, sporting, cultural, creative and technological learning areas and programs to develop social and employment skills are a focus.

In 2021 Melville High School joined the Connected Communities Strategy which aims to improve outcomes for Aboriginal students and therefore all students.

General Selection Criteria
  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

Approval to teach English 7-12

Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to build capacity of staff.

Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively in developing data informed practices and programs to improve student success and school excellence.

Demonstrated capacity in successfully implementing curriculum to support the learning of a broad range of students, including students from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Demonstrated ability to work with community to embed authentic Aboriginal perspectives into teaching and learning experiences.

Capacity to lead, manage and implement whole school policies, procedures and initiatives as part of a school executive team.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Successful applicants may be entitled to a Recruitment Bonus of $20,000 (conditions apply).
