Birali Steiner School is an emerging, innovative and vibrant Steiner School, on a 26-acre, greenfield site in Beachmere, Queensland, an hour north of Brisbane’s CBD. It presently operates with a Principal, Teaching & Learning Coordinator, Class Teachers, Teacher Aides, Business Manager, Admin and Maintenance staff. The School currently offers Prep to Class 9 and is accredited P-10 with current enrolments of circa 110 students.

Birali Steiner School is a developing, innovative and vibrant Steiner School, in Beachmere just north of Brisbane on Moreton Bay. It presently operates with a Principal, a Leadership Team, Class Teachers, Teacher Aides, an Individual Enrichment Team, Administration Team and Maintenance Team with approximately 150 students (approx. 170 in 2025). The school is accredited P-10 and in 2025 will have classes of Prep, Classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5/6, 7/8 and 9/10. The school is situated on a 26-acre greenfield site with the long-term vision for a K-12 school.

All staff employed by Birali Steiner School are expected to support our Steiner Education philosophy. 

The Head of Teaching and Learning, as part of the Leadership Team, will:

  • Oversee and work with teaching staff to support students across the school (P-10).
  • Work closely with the Principal, Leadership Team and teaching staff to implement our teaching and learning philosophy and oversee related initiatives.
  • Work with teaching staff to support and foster positive student engagement.
  • Work closely with Principal, Leadership Team and relevant staff to support and implement procedures and processes in a developing school.
  • Support the Principal with related HR matters.
  • Supporting Leadership with operational matters such as relief staffing and timetabling.
  • Planning and chairing weekly College Meetings 
  • Supporting the Principal with mentoring, regular observations and appraisals for new teachers 
  • New teacher mentoring and curriculum development

Key selection criteria:

  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to triage on a daily basis, with strong time management, organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and exemplary teaching practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and broader community members.
  • Demonstrated skills in Restorative practices.
  • Background in Steiner education (preferred).
  • Moderate ICT skills with ability to learn and develop systems. 
  • Demonstrated experience and strong understanding of Anthroposophy and Steiner pedagogy.
  • Experience working as a school leader within a Steiner school context (preferred).
  • Strong communication and personal organisational skills.
  • Experience and understanding of school management within the context of a developing school.

Birali Steiner School employs under the conditions in the MA000077: Educational Services (Teachers) Award 2020, based on qualifications and years of experience. Birali Steiner School pays above award rates. There is a Leadership Allowance associated with this role.
