About this job

The Wolanski Family Specialist Learning Centre (SLC) at Emanuel School serves students from K-12. As the name suggests, the SLC seeks to ensure access to educational opportunities for all students on the same basis.

This is a newly created position following a restructure of our Specialist Learning Centre. The Head of SLC (High School) will be instrumental in shaping and bringing to life a new vision for inclusivity and diverse learning needs across the High School. The Head of SLC (High School) is an instructional leader who guides and models inclusive practices across the High School within a K-12 educational framework.

This is a full time, permanent position available from the start of 2025.

Reporting to the Deputy Principal, the Head of SLC (High School) will lead all things relating to the SLC. This includes

  • Creating a shared understanding of inclusivity and a collective agreement on school-wide approaches to supporting all students with diverse needs.
  • Reviewing and leading the service delivery model based on contemporary research and evidence based practices.
  • Building the capacity of teachers to understand diverse learning needs and differentiation and meet the needs of students.
  • Ongoing management of the SLC including working with the High School SLC teachers to manage of day-to-day issues, collection and organisation of information related to SLC students and necessary reporting, including NCCD, and disability provisions/adjustments.
  • Face to face teaching, including team teaching, small group and 1:1.
  • Collaboratively planning with students, parents and external professional as required.

The successful applicant will be a suitably qualified High School teacher with both tertiary qualifications in teaching and in aspects of specialised/additional needs, particularly with students who are generally high functioning. Prior experience teaching students with diverse needs and leading a team is essential.
