About this job
About Us:
Make a lasting difference in a school where every student is known, valued and encouraged to succeed. Located on Gudjal Country, Charters Towers State High School has proudly served its rural community for more than 100 years, combining strong traditions with innovative, responsive education. We are a close-knit Year 7-12 school with committed staff, supportive families and a genuine belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive. As our Head of Special Education, you will have the opportunity to lead inclusive practice across the school, develop the capability of an enthusiastic team and build strong partnerships with students, families, teachers and support agencies. Our flexible learning pathways, wellbeing programs, Agricultural Farm and Dalrymple Trade Training Centre create rich opportunities to tailor learning to individual strengths, interests and aspirations. This is a highly rewarding leadership position in which your expertise, initiative and compassion will have a visible impact—not only on student achievement, but on confidence, belonging and future possibilities.
Charters Towers offers the space, affordability and relaxed pace of country living without leaving essential services or coastal connections behind. Just 90 minutes from Townsville and the coast, "the Towers" is renowned for its welcoming country hospitality, beautiful heritage streetscapes, spectacular sunsets from Towers Hill and a strong community spirit. Affordable housing, short commutes and an impressive range of sporting, arts, theatre, equestrian and community organisations make it an excellent place to establish yourself or raise a family. Weekends can include the iconic drive-in cinema, local markets and events, rodeos, race days, music festivals, the annual show, exploring the goldfields or simply enjoying the freedom of wide-open spaces and clear blue skies. If you are an inspiring and values-driven special education leader looking for meaningful work, professional opportunity and a lifestyle that gives something back, we warmly invite you to join the Charters Towers State High School community—where what we achieve together is truly "more to be desired than gold."
