The Head of Junior School reports to the Headmistress and is a key member of the Senior Executive team. This role is responsible for leading Abbotsleigh’s Junior School and Early Learning Centre, ensuring strategic alignment with the whole-school vision and fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, wellbeing, and collaboration. The role is responsible for leadership of the Junior School; however, the successful candidate will have a PreK–12 perspective and, for the right candidate, the role will be extended into the role of a Deputy Head of the School, and as such, the HOJS will deputise for the Headmistress and Deputy Headmistress as required.
As an Anglican school, Abbotsleigh seeks a Head of Junior School who is a committed and practising Christian, aligned with the school’s Anglican traditions. The successful candidate will be an active participant in the spiritual life of the school, fostering a community that upholds Christian values and principles.
The Head of Junior School provides visionary leadership to staff and students, overseeing curriculum development, pedagogy, wellbeing programs, and operational management in a highly relational and collaborative manner. They also support the Headmistress in whole-school strategic initiatives and community engagement.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- A Pre-K–12 perspective.
- Excellence in leading teaching and learning, ensuring high-quality education through contemporary pedagogy, curriculum development, and innovative practices.
- A commitment to wellbeing, the co-curricular life of the School, and the development of the ‘whole child’.
- Ability to drive strategic improvement, innovation, and change, enhancing student learning, staff development, and overall school performance.
- Capacity to mentor and develop staff, creating a professional culture of collaboration, continuous growth, wellbeing, and excellence in teaching and leadership.
- Strong operational leadership in overseeing the daily activities of the Junior School and Early Learning Centre, ensuring effective resource allocation, compliance, and student wellbeing.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, building strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and the broader community to promote the school's vision and values.
- Commitment to Christian values, fostering spiritual growth and a strong sense of community among students, staff, and families
Offered as a full-time ongoing position commencing in 2025, applicants must have the right to work in Australia and hold appropriate teaching and leadership qualifications. A Masters in Educational Leadership is desirable.
