About this job

Reporting to the Principal and serving on the School’s Strategic Advisory Team and Executive, the Head of High School will provide strategic, educational and operational leadership across Years 7–12. This influential appointment offers the opportunity to shape the direction of the High School as Emanuel implements its new strategic plan and associated three-year roadmaps.

Leading the High School Executive Team, the appointee will oversee teaching and learning, student wellbeing, leadership development and effective daily operations. A visible and accessible leader, they will build trusted relationships with students, staff and families, strengthen student voice and agency, and foster a culture of academic achievement, belonging, accountability and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will combine strategic thinking with strong people leadership, sound judgement and the capacity to translate vision into action. They will be an authentic, resilient and community-minded educator, able to navigate complex matters with empathy and confidence while developing high-performing leaders and teams. Applications are welcomed from experienced Heads of School and accomplished senior leaders ready to assume broader responsibility for a secondary school.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Commitment to actively support and promote the Jewish ethos, values and strategic vision of Emanuel School.
  • Proven ability to lead teaching and learning excellence and improve student outcomes through evidence-informed practice.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of programs to promote student wellbeing.
  • Strategic capacity to lead innovation, change and continuous improvement across a secondary school setting.
  • Demonstrated success in developing, mentoring and empowering staff and leaders to achieve high performance.
  • Exceptional leadership and organisational skills in managing the operations, wellbeing and performance of a High School.
  • Highly developed communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, families and the wider community.

Applicants must hold an approved teaching qualification, be eligible for NESA accreditation and possess a valid Working with Children Check. Jewish faith is not a requirement; however, a genuine commitment to Emanuel School’s ethos, values and community life is essential.
