About Us:
Queensland Education and Training Centre (QETC) is a multi-campus, Department of Education school operating within South-East Queensland's Youth Detention Centres at Wacol. QETC is a school that caters to male and female students from across the state who are either on remand or have been sentenced for criminal offences. The school plays an important role in the community by providing young people in detention with the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, and values that can enhance their capacity to pursue positive choices in the future.
About the Role:
The Wacol Youth Remand Education Support Hub (WYRESH) can facilitate up to 76 students across a 48-week year delivery model. It is expected that WYRESH will be run as an interim facility until the end of 2026. As this is an interim facility this position will remain temporary.
As the Head of Department you will:
- Deliver the vision of the department.
- Improve the educational outcomes of students in their schools.
- Develop the quality of teaching and learning.
- Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
- Provide strategic leadership to develop, articulate, and implement a shared departmental vision that delivers high-quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Embed socially just, inclusive practices and maintain high expectations for student achievement and staff performance.
- Lead with a futures-focused mindset, actively engaging in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
- Build strong partnerships with students, parents, community groups, and relevant government agencies to support learning and wellbeing.
- Manage human, financial, facilities, and curriculum resources effectively, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies impacting students and staff.
