About the Role:
The Learning and Teaching Team is comprised of the Senior School Principal, Head of Department - Learning and Teaching, and four Learning and Teaching Pedagogy coaches. A key area of focus is the embedding of a consistent language for our learning and teaching practices - continually developing and refining consistency of practice in classroom pedagogy. The ideal candidate will have a contemporary leadership style, focussed on collegial engagement, collaboration and innovation in order to foster and drive continuous pedagogy improvement throughout our school.
As the Head of Department - Learning and Teaching you will:
- Lead our community of forward thinkers by promoting a culture of continuous improvement and growth that is aligned to our school vision and values.
- Have a strong understanding of evidence-based teaching practices and have knowledge, understanding and experience to lead the implementation of the school's pedagogical framework.
- Lead professional development and opportunities for self-reflection to teaching staff.
- Promote a strong collegial culture of mutual trust and high expectations whereby staff feel supported to share effective teaching and learning practices.
- Foster a culture of creativity and critical reflection with open and dynamic conversations occurring within and across the school's leadership team and within faculties.
Responsibilities for the Head of Department - Learning and Teaching include, but are not limited to;
- Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
- Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
- Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
- Be futures oriented and strategic.
- Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
- Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the school department to achieve goals.
