About Bowen State High School

Bowen SHS is seeking outstanding teachers who would like to complete rural service in the Whitsunday region. We have achieved 100% QCE and QCIA attainment for the past 8 years. We are a Co-Ed secondary school with approx. 680 students, including 25% indigenous students. We are a low SES school and have targeted programs to improve the literacy and numeracy of all students. We are a Positive Behaviour 4 Learning school with a focus on Restorative Justice Practices.

We have a well-established coaching and mentoring program for beginning teachers, including trained classroom profilers who support teachers to develop their Essentials Skills in Behaviour Management.

Bowen SHS is a fully inclusive school to support students with learning, social/emotional, intellectual and physical needs. Are school motto is “Prepared for all things” and our agreed Pedagogical Approach is Visible Teaching and Visible Learning.

Our extra-curricular opportunities feature sport, musicals, art and instrumental programs.

About the Role

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching and Learning Development across the school.
  • Accountabilities including: Building capacity of staff with the whole school approach to pedagogy, BYOD program, Beginning teacher Mentor program, Literacy and Numeracy Intervention Program, Classroom Management Processes, Instructional Coaching, Whole School Professional Development Plan and ADPD processes.
  • Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
