The Department of Education is dedicated to building an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the community and schools we support by treating everyone with respect and dignity. This starts with recruitment and selection. The methods of assessing suitability in the recruitment process may vary. This includes making reasonable adjustments to support applicants at all stages of the process and employee lifecycle.

About the Role

You will lead the implementation of support systems for students, driving initiatives that improve wellbeing and engagement across the school. Each role will be responsible for leading their designated student cohorts, developing tailored strategies to address individual needs, and fostering positive relationships among students, staff, and the wider community. Through your leadership, you will cultivate an inclusive environment where students feel supported and empowered to thrive during these critical phases of their learning. These roles will be central in guiding support for students across the junior (years 7/8) and middle (years 9/10) phases of learning, ensuring tailored strategies are implemented to enhance student engagement, wellbeing, and academic success.

As Head of Department - Student Services, your role will include:

  • Supporting students' academic progress through tailored interventions and proactive wellbeing initiatives.
  • Managing and responding to student behaviour and performance concerns in line with the school's Student Code of Conduct.
  • Collaborating with Heads of Department and the student support services team to ensure the inclusion of all students.
  • Leading the development and implementation of wellbeing strategies, attendance initiatives, and the promotion of a positive school culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support for students, develop intervention strategies, and case-manage students requiring additional assistance.
  • Work closely with the student support services team, parents, and external agencies to enhance student wellbeing.
  • Analyse and respond to student data to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes.
  • Promote Cavendish Road SHS's ethos through assemblies, student recognition, and the development of initiatives that celebrate student success and foster a positive school environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in leadership, with a focus on student engagement, wellbeing, or academic improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data and implement evidence-based strategies to improve student outcomes.
  • Capacity to lead and inspire staff in creating a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing learning environment.
