The Western Cape College is a unique state school with two campuses located in Mapoon (P-6), and Weipa (P-12), as well as a secondary residential facility also located in Weipa. The Position

As the Head of Department, you will focus on initiatives to support the educational outcomes for students through nurturing positive relationships between students, teachers, and community. This position will work across all WCC campuses, supporting students from years 5-12.

The successful candidate should have a strong knowledge of, and capacity to provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and attendance. An ability to develop and sustain productive relationships with all stakeholders is vital.

Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Work collaboratively with and support Principals across the College to shape and implement WCC Strategic Plan and foster a positive collegial culture
  • Lead the development, implementation and review of programs that build the personal and social Capabilities of students and ultimately their educational outcomes
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and attendance through a multi-tiered approach.
  • lead the development, implementation and review of specified curriculum programs, campus initiatives, activities and teaching and learning strategies in specified programs
  • Develop and implement engagement strategies and programs with other organisations, local businesses and nor for profit organisations.
  • contribute to the development of workforce capability, through the leadership of specified professional development and targeted coaching and mentoring of staff
  • Be futures oriented and strategic.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
  • Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the program to achieve goals.
