Who We Are:
Normanton State School is a small, remote primary school in the Gulf Country of Queensland, serving students from Prep to Year 6.
It provides a supportive and culturally inclusive learning environment, with a strong focus on community connection and Indigenous education.
The school emphasises literacy, numeracy, and student wellbeing while offering programs that reflect local culture and the unique outback setting.
Step Into Your Next Chapter:
The Partnership Initiative Head of Department Culture and Engagement will:
- Continue to support and work with staff to develop reading and the use of EAL/D strategies across the school
- Continue to contextualise and implement Version 9 of Australian Curriculum across the school, using local knowledge and by accessing local resources
- Strengthen culturally connected curriculum and support student well-being, attendance and engagement
- Develop locally responsive, place-based approaches to support student well-being, attendance and engagement
- Use data and researched strategies to case manage students around engagement and attendance
- Mentor and support staff to build their confidence and expertise, strengthening alignment with school priorities and enhancing student outcomes and opportunities
- Collaborate with community elders and outside agencies to embed first nation perspectives within the curriculum and through using parent and community voice
- Will link families and students to appropriate community supports and manage key relationships with community stakeholders
