About the School

Kelvin Grove State College is located in a unique educational precinct, next to Queensland University of Technology, just three kilometres from Brisbane's central business district. Each Head of Department at our college leads a large, complex area within a P-12 institution of 3,700 students.

Following a review of our middle leadership structure, the current Head of Department role for Health, Physical Education, and Sports Excellence will be split into two positions in 2025. Under the new structure, the Head of Department (Health and Physical Education) will collaborate closely with the Head of Department (Sports Excellence), both supported by an Associate Head of Department (HPE and Sports Excellence).

About the Role

As Head of Department (Health and Physical Education), you will lead a large team to design and deliver innovative curricular and co-curricular programs. You will oversee intra- and inter-school sport programs and contribute to the college's strategic agenda as part of the Leadership Team. This role reports to the Deputy Principal overseeing the Sports and Global Pathways portfolio.  As the Head of Department (Health and Physical Education) you will:

  • Lead the development, implementation and review of the HPE curriculum across Years 6 to 12 and school sport activities in line with college and departmental initiatives
  • Participate in delivering the vision of State Schools Division
  • Develop the quality of teaching and learning
  • Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders

The ideal candidate will set high standards for student and staff performance, be futures oriented and strategic, and demonstrate a holistic, proactive and collaborative approach to leading a large and complex department area in alignment with the college's strategic priorities. A strong working knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and QCAA Quality Assurance and Certification processes would be advantageous.
