The Head of Year 7 at Mackay State High School plays a crucial role in leading the Year 7 Engagement and Wellbeing portfolios. Your Role:

  • Student Engagement and Wellbeing: Lead initiatives that enhance student engagement, focusing on targeted attendance and behaviour management support.
  • Data-driven practices - Collect, analyse and interpret data to improve student achievement and engagement;
  • Coaching support: Support teachers to achieve high standards and to develop their capacity through professional learning, coaching and feedback, particularly in classroom management techniques that enhance student engagement
  • Positive partnerships: Form strong learning partnerships with students, parents and external stakeholders in case management processes
  • Transition Support: Oversee the successful transition of students from Year 6 into Year 7, providing the necessary guidance and support
  • Targeted Support: Provide Tier 2 targeted support for students experiencing difficulties in the classroom or playground, addressing individual needs to improve their overall school experience.
  • Event Coordination: Assist in the coordination of key Year 7 events, including orientation programs, camps, and other extracurricular activities that contribute to student development.
  • Parent Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents, keeping them informed of their child's progress and any areas of concern. Foster strong relationships with families to support student success.
  • Knowledge, experience and leadership of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) would be advantageous.
