Meridan is a Prep-Year 12 College and boasts a distinctive sub school structure which fosters the education of this broad age range of students in modern campuses, which have been purpose designed to cater for each cohort at their specific age of development. Each phase offers a diverse and rich curriculum supported by quality teaching that gives our students a seamless progression through their 13 years of schooling. A dense rainforest divides the site providing a separation of the sub schools. A boardwalk which transverses the rainforest links the sub schools and provides unique learning experiences for our students in a beautiful, natural environment.

About the Role

As the Head of Department Design Technology, you will:

  • Leading the implementation and delivery of the 7-10 Australian Curriculum Design Technology
  • Leading the implementation and delivery of the 10-12 courses (General, Applied and VET offerings)
  • Leading the explicit improvement agenda of Design Technology faculty aligning with the MSC improvement agenda
  • Developing the quality of teaching and learning and nurturing positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders to maximise educational outcomes for students

Specific duties include:

  • Curriculum leadership and management for Design, Industrial and Food Technology (Australian Curriculum, Vocational Education and QCAA General and Applied)
  • Develop and grow a contemporary vision for curriculum areas aligned to industry needs and deliver this trough a change management process.
  • Lead implementation of the MSC Teaching and Learning cycle
  • Lead moderation processes as per MSC Teaching and Learning cycle
  • Lead implementation of MSC improvement agenda in Faculty context via facilitating change management
  • Instructional leadership and coaching within and across faculty
  • Line management of staff and manage APR process and staff performance.
  • Manage the human, financial and curriculum resources of the Design Technology faculty.

The Head of Department is accountable to and under the direction of the Principal or delegate.

About You

Skills and knowledge in the areas below are preferred:

  • Team Leadership (diverse range of staff/roles)
  • Design Technology Curriculum (AC, QCAA and VET)
  • Contemporary understanding of industry requirements and direction.
  • Mental health / social / emotional support strategies
  • Strong conflict resolution, mediation skills and staff team building skills
  • Develop and maintain community networks and partnerships
  • Current and emerging technology and education trends and opportunities.
  • Data Literacy to develop and implement systems to track, monitor and lead intervention for student learning progress and wellbeing
