About the Role
The Head of Department (Curriculum) role will lead and manage the activities of students and teachers, in line with the school's vision and values pertaining to but not limited by enacting the Australian Curriculum at our school. Working as a member of the school's senior executive team, you will improve the educational outcomes of students in the school by facilitating quality teaching and learning and nurturing positive relationships.
The role will include responsibility for strategic work aligned to AIP and Explicit Improvement Agenda priorities, line management of teachers, assisting with the management of the school timetable and our student cohorts. The role will also include the opportunity of School Leadership with any leave of the Substantive Principal.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Leading the implementation of Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum (English, Mathematics and moving onto Science), ensuring alignment with key curriculum priorities and fidelity of implementation
- Overseeing whole-school curriculum planning (One Note), unit planning, and the development of curriculum tracking tools
- Ensuring all students are working towards positive outcomes aligned to the Department of Education's Excellence and Equity strategy
- Supporting staff with the development of clear success criteria and learning intentions for all subject areas
- Leading the school's moderation processes (pre- and post-)
- Supporting differentiation in mainstream classes, including ICPs, adjustments, templates, and referral pathways
- Leading collaborative planning, analysing any data with ST/LAN, and delivering PD aligned to the school's Explicit Improvement Agenda
- Managing staff timetables (teachers and teacher aides) and providing line management of staff
- Overseeing PLT and executive leadership meetings and contributing to whole-school decision-making processes
- Leading whole-school approaches to pedagogy and reading as key school improvement initiatives
- Coordinating One School reporting
- Liaising with support services, including the Speech Pathologist and Guidance Officer, to support student needs
- Managing ICAS testing and Distance Education programs (Japanese)
- Supporting internal and external communication, including school social media (e.g., Facebook)
- Includes possibility of a small teaching load of selected secondary classes
