About Bribie Island State High School

Bribie Island State High School is a co-educational secondary school located on an Island with a population of approximately 18,500, situated 100 kilometres north of Queensland's capital city. The school opened its doors to its first student intake on January 23, 1989 with 300 students. We now have a school population of over 1,100 students and 100 employees.

Bribie Island State High School enjoys a strong reputation for quality education. We seek to provide a rewarding and engaging education for all students. The schools' vision is to be a leader in secondary education, through the provision of the best value education for Island families, responsive to their needs and aspirations. We have close working relationships with the two primary schools on the island, Bribie Island State School and Banksia Beach State School, including secondary transition programs.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an aspirant or experienced school leader to make a difference to Students within the Bribie Island community. The Head of Department Secondary position will lead the development and implementation the Bribie Island SHS FlexiSpace to commence supporting students seeking greater engagement in a flexible model of education delivery from the beginning of the 2025 school year. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and implementing programs that support greater engagement across the student body from year 7-12. The successful candidate will lead a team of staff supporting program delivery, student transitions in and out of programs, building partnerships with community to ensure successful outcomes for students. The will also take a strategic leadership role in the implementation of Vocational Education and Training across the school, diversifying learning opportunities and increasing competency based learning pathways.

The successful candidate will benefit from previous experience working in, or leading programs that engage students in various contexts, demonstrated knowledge of vocational education and training policy and procedures, strong analytical skills and demonstrated experience in building partnerships within and beyond the school to support student outcomes.

The position will commence on Monday 25 November 2024 or earlier pending a negotiated release from duties.
