About Tagai State College - Saibai Island Campus

Saibai Island is an island of the Torres Strait Islands archipelago located in the Torres Strait of Queensland. The island is situated north of the Australian mainland and south of the island of New Guinea. The community of Saibai is located on the north-west coast of the island and has a population of approximately 450 people. The island is flat and comprised of predominantly mangrove swamplands. A bitumen airstrip allows year round access.

The island has regular daily flights to and from Horn Island. There is a health centre serviced by visiting health professionals. There is a supermarket located on the island which is serviced by a weekly freight barge. The community is proud of its unique history and culture and takes pride in sharing this with people who come to live and work on the island.

Saibai Island Campus is one of the 16 Primary campuses that make up Tagai State College. These campuses are spread across 48,000 square kilometres of ocean in the Torres Strait. The College also has a Secondary campus and a TAFE campus located on Thursday Island. Saibai Island Campus currently has 80 students enrolled ranging in year levels from Kindy to Year 6. For most students, English is an additional language. Tagai State College provides a high level of support to leaders through a support team of experienced educators. The Head of Campus of Saibai Island reports directly to the Executive Principal based on Thursday Island.

Your opportunity

As the Head of Campus you will:

  • Deliver the vision of the department;
  • Improve the educational outcomes of students in their schools;
  • Develop the quality of teaching and learning;
  • Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.

The Head of Campus reports to the School Supervisor.

You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering the vision of Education Queensland and Tagai State College;
  • Improving the educational outcomes of students in the campus;
  • Leading quality teaching and learning practices across the campus;
  • Nurturing positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.
