About William Duncan State School
William Duncan State School has a proud history of serving the community of Highland Park on the Gold Coast since 1987. As a co-educational school of around 600 students from Prep to Year 6 we aim for a balance of academic, cultural and sporting achievement whilst maintaining high expectations for student behaviour and appearance.
Our school offers an inclusive approach to learning, supporting the needs of all students. Our students are fortunate to be immersed in specialised classroom lessons including Music, HPE, Japanese, Health, STEaM and The Arts. Extra-curricular offerings include instrumental music and choir programs, interschool sport, gifted and talented enrichment, school camps and numerous other cultural and academic enrichment opportunities.
About the Role
As the Guidance Officer you will:
- Provide professional expertise, leadership and support to school communities and networks in the development and implementation of plans, programs and procedures to assist students in achieving positive educational, developmental and lifelong learning outcomes
- Collaboratively negotiate, develop and implement programs for students that have a focus on preventative and early intervention strategies, are responsive to identified personal, social, emotional and educational needs; and aim to foster resilience and personal skills development.
Guidance Officers contribute towards, and are accountable for the provision of a comprehensive student support program that is responsive to the identified and changing needs of students. The program will be negotiated with and authorised by a line-manager identified by the Principal. Guidance Officers are required to provide this service in collaborating with other school-based personnel and external support providers in a variety of educational contexts.
Guidance Officers are required to participate in regular clinics and technical supervision with a Senior Guidance Officer or their nominee, to ensure the provision of ongoing professional support and development.
