About Us:

Located in a south western suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Algester State School is a co-educational government, primary school with around 1,000 students. Our doors opened in 1977 and since then we have been a vital part of the local community.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Provide advocacy, counselling, psychoeducational assessment, and targeted support to students, with expert advice to teachers and parents on educational, behavioural, mental health, career, and family-related matters.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and with external agencies to deliver coordinated case management, referrals, and comprehensive support that enhances student engagement and access to learning.
  • Assess student learning, developmental, emotional, and behavioural needs through observation and formal assessment, and develop evidence-based recommendations for educational adjustments, interventions, and individualised support plans.
  • Lead and contribute to student protection, behaviour support, gifted education, critical incident response, transition planning, and intensive behaviour support, including SET planning and future pathway counselling in secondary settings.
  • Maintain high ethical standards in confidentiality, record keeping, and legal compliance, while engaging in ongoing professional development and delivering training and support to school staff and parents.
