About Us

The focus of the role is to provide support for students experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns at school.

Wellbeing professionals employed through the Student Wellbeing Package work as part of a school's established student support team to enhance the wellbeing and mental health supports available to students.

The Student Wellbeing Package ensures that every Queensland primary and secondary state school student has access to a wellbeing professional at school.


About the Role

As the Wellbeing Guidance Officer, you will:

  • Provide professional support and information for students, parents, carers and school communities that facilitate partnerships in decision making for the enhancement of all students' learning.
  • Provide services such as counselling, assessment and intervention, focusing on students' mental health and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive student support and wellbeing program that is responsive to the needs of the school community.

About You

Guidance Officers provide a unique source of expertise and experience requiring a background that includes a:

  • high level of teaching ability
  • advanced individual and group counselling skills and
  • sophisticated interpersonal and personal abilities.

Mandatory requirements

Current FULL registration as a teacher in Queensland and ONE of the following:

  • Completed coursework Masters, majoring in guidance and counselling, or an equivalent completed coursework Masters including study in the areas of psychoeducational assessment, counselling and mental health
    OR
  • General or provisional registration as a psychologist through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Psychology Board
    OR
  • an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four- or five-year qualification in psychology, that at the time of completion, would enable general registration as a psychologist following completion of a board approved internship or accredited sequence of study.
