About the role -
We are seeking a Grounds and Maintenance Officer for a fixed term contract with a genuine passion for their work to ensure the school facilities and grounds are maintained in a high standard of neatness, tidiness, safety and hygiene.

Duties include: 

  • Waste removal, removal of graffiti, cobwebs and litter from College facilities and grounds, and emptying and washing rubbish bins.
  • Care of grounds, gardens and oval including rubbish removal, mowing, edging, watering, soil maintenance, and planting and pruning of shrubs and trees.
  • Operate cleaning equipment for the sweeping, moping, buffing, blowing and hosing of external and undercover Colleges surfaces and outdoor seating as appropriate, routinely and as required.
  • Assist with the running of College events, including venue and equipment set-up and pack-down, including stacking and unstacking of chairs.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably requested by the Business Manager or Principal.
  • Understand, apply and adhere to safe working procedures and all relevant WHS policies and procedures of BCE and the College, notifying the Business Manager of unsafe or potential hazards that require further attention.
  • Participate in workplace health and safety training, document workplace risks and always adhere to safe work practices and procedures, including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment appropriate to the task being undertaken or equipment being used.
  • Follow security and lock up procedures.

About you - Ideally you will:

  • Support the mission and ethos of the College.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills including developing positive relationships with fellow staff and students.
  • Reliability, flexibility, commitment and pride in one’s work.
  • Ability to use and maintain portable hand tools and gardening/ cleaning equipment, including mowers and tractor.
  • Able to accept direction and supervision, but also exercise initiative and independence when appropriate.
  • Ability to apply Workplace Health and Safety standards, especially with regard to the use, application, manual handling and storage of petrol, LP gas, insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers and chemicals.
  • Sound practice in relation to security of buildings, personal property and equipment.
  • You will also have a good work ethic and seek to achieve quality work whilst maintaining the highest level of safety.


To be eligible to be considered for this role you will:

  • hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement;
  • be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment; and
  • have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education.
