Job Overview

We are recruiting a dedicated and experienced Functional Skills Maths and English Tutor to support apprentices working towards their Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications.

The role will involve a combination of centre-based and workplace delivery, with approximately 50% of sessions delivered in centre and 50% on-site within apprentices' workplaces. Workplace locations may be local to Manchester or further afield, so flexibility to travel is required.

You will work closely with apprentices and employers to deliver engaging, personalised learning, monitor progress, and support learners in developing the Maths and English skills they need to succeed in their apprenticeship and workplace.

Delivery will primarily consist of 20-30 minute 1:1 sessions, with the number of learners expected to increase as the provision continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English to apprentices
  • Provide engaging and personalised 1:1 teaching sessions of approximately 20-30 minutes
  • Deliver sessions both in centre and within apprentices' workplaces
  • Plan and prepare lessons that meet individual learner needs and qualification requirements
  • Set and support learners with relevant workplace project work
  • Monitor, assess, and record learner progress and achievement
  • Identify areas where learners require additional support and adapt delivery accordingly
  • Conduct regular learner/employer tripartite reviews
  • Work collaboratively with apprentices and employers to support learner progression
  • Maintain accurate learner records and evidence of progress
  • Support learners in developing confidence and applying Maths and English skills within the workplace
  • Travel to different workplace locations as required
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Functional Skills provision

    • Requirements

  • Level 3 teaching qualification - essential
  • Relevant experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and English - essential
  • Experience supporting learners at Level 2 - essential
  • Experience working with apprentices or adult learners - desirable
  • Experience delivering 1:1 teaching or personalised learning - desirable
  • Strong planning, assessment, and learner monitoring skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with learners and employers
  • Flexible approach to centre-based and workplace delivery
  • Ability and willingness to travel to workplace locations
  • IQA qualification and experience - advantageous
  • Understanding of apprenticeship delivery and tripartite reviews - advantageous
