About the Role

This position supports the food technology staff at the Senior Campus in their day-to-day teaching to ensure the effectiveness of the food technology classes in the commercial kitchens and training restaurants. The position requires close consultation with the Food Technology Coordinator, Food Technology teachers and VET/Careers Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Order groceries and kitchen supplies as required through various vendors according to lesson plans.
  • Provide ingredients and equipment for Food Technology and Hospitality lessons as required by teaching staff.
  • Receive and store food ingredient orders as required, meeting food safety and work health and safety requirements.
  • Daily laundry of tea towels, including folding and restocking, is done in kitchens.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the Preparation Room and classroom areas daily.
  • Prepare dishwashers and other technologies each morning for daily use as required.
  • Check and restock the training restaurant (Café Bella) ingredients as required.
  • End of term/semester cleaning of all equipment, shelving, fridges and ovens in all kitchen classrooms.
  • Manage inventory of equipment, warranties and repairs, including routine maintenance.
  • Receives (or delegates receipt of) delivery of orders in good condition, checks that purchases and invoices/statements are correct and then submits for payment.

Qualifications

  • Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) Registration – ACT is a mandatory requirement.
  • Certificate IV in Education Support (or equivalent) will be well regarded but is not mandatory for a 4.1 classification. Applicants who hold this qualification will be classified at level 5.1.

Selection Criteria 

  • A passion and a keen interest in food technology and working within an educational setting.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to use technology and equipment in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • A demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, using high levels of organization, prioritisation, agility and time management skills.
  • Qualifications relating to food preparation and handling, food safety and hygiene, catering and hospitality.
  • Highly professional manner and strong interpersonal skills with a courteous, calm and welcoming demeanour.
  • The ability to positively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and build productive working relationships.
