About Flagstone State Community College

Flagstone State Community College is a state high school situated on 15 hectares in Flagstone Estate, five kilometres from Jimboomba township, in the city of Logan. Opened in January 2002, the College now numbers over 900 students from Year 7-12.

Students are able to study both academic and vocational curriculum and participate in a wide range of sports and cultural activities. Although a young school, our College has already amassed many fine achievements and has established a tradition of excellent teaching and learning epitomized in our motto 'Inspirational teaching...Inspired learning'.

About the Role:

Flagstone State Community College is seeking a dedicated and proactive individual for a temporary Administrative Officer (A04) role to lead Work, Health & Safety (WHS) efforts and foster a safe, supportive learning culture for staff and students. This role has been instrumental in enhancing staff wellbeing, reducing occupational hazards, and creating a positive, psychologically safe work environment. The successful candidate will support staff, particularly those in Inclusion roles, through direct engagement in safety planning, injury management, and compliance tasks, while also providing leadership in the school's WHS initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide advice to management on all matters pertaining to the prevention of accidents, a wide range of hazard identification and control, promotion of health and safety, environmental and risk issues as they relate to students, staff and contractors.
  • Conduct proactive risk assessments and inspections to identify any hazards and unsafe or unsatisfactory workplace health and safety conditions and practices.
  • Develop, promote and coordinate appropriate training on various health and safety topics that will develop awareness and compliance with legislative and departmental health and safety.
  • Develop, revise and maintain effective communication links with the Workplace Health and Safety Committee by providing regular reports and feedback on activities including prevention of accidents, promotion of health and safety, risk issues and emergency procedures.
  • Facilitate the school's Workplace Health and Safety network through the following processes:
    • Organise four Workplace Health and Safety Committee meetings per year
    • Perform Secretariat duties for the Committee meetings
    • Organise professional development opportunities within the meetings
    • Provide advice and support on departmental Workplace Health, Safety and Wellbeing procedures, guidelines and other resources.
