Your Opportunity

As the Principal Regulatory Officer, you will provide data driven insights to inform regulatory practice reforms and initiatives that achieve strategic objectives and activities under the relevant legislative frameworks, and in accordance with the principles of good administrative decision making and best practice regulation.

The Principal Regulatory Officer reports to the Director, Registration Services, Registration Services (International, Non-State and Home Education), Policy, Performance, International and Intergovernmental Division.

Your Role

As the Principal Regulatory Officer, you will work with your Manager, Director and across the branch to contribute to develop, implement and evaluate a business and resourcing model to discharge the Director General's statutory resourcing obligations. You will also develop and plan for a cultural shift in regulatory activity based on risk by developing a revised regulatory framework.

Responsibilities include:

  • Undertake research, analyse data and legislation to identify trends, communicate issues and anomalies, and to guide risk analysis and regulatory performance measurement activities to further support regulatory reform initiatives.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations and prepare documentation for leadership as well as internal and external stakeholders regarding continuous quality improvement in regulatory functions.
  • Prepare reports, briefing notes, Parliamentary Questions, assisting in the preparation of Cabinet Submissions and correspondence and developing advice about policy, programs. budgetary matters and legislative issues.
  • Analyse business processes as well as deliver information and specialist advice that is well-evidenced, consistent, accurate and timely to support regulatory reform initiatives, reporting requirements and statutory decision making.
  • Prepare frameworks, tools, systems and processes to ensure continuous quality improvement in regulatory practice based on data-driven assessment of risk.
  • Undertake governance, project and financial management, modelling activities and contemporary information management as well as business intelligence solutions to monitor and report on continuous regulatory improvement initiatives, and to meet reporting and legislative requirements and to ensure consistency, fairness and effectiveness in regulatory practice.

About You

You will be highly organised, a collaborator with strong communication skills who values stakeholders, and be experienced in supporting strategic projects, data and financial analysis. Demonstrated experience and/or understanding of a proactive approach to regulated activities and supporting change will be highly regarded.
