Red Hill Special School; a Queensland Department of Education and Training school campus where quality teaching provides great learning opportunities. Located just five kilometres from the Brisbane GPO, we provide highly adapted and individualised programs for children and students with complex educational needs.

The guiding principle for our school is all children have an inalienable right to an education. We achieve this aim through caring and professional staff members offering a curriculum which caters for all ability groups, taking into consideration their range of individual needs and abilities.

About the Role:

The three main focus areas for this role will be the P-10 Curriculum (AC v9), senior school curriculum (GIL/QCIA), and reading (particular focus on Systematic Synthetic Phonics). The Head of Department - Curriculum will be passionate about driving a collaborative culture of learning, and supporting teachers and support staff to best meet the needs of our students. They will work collaboratively with the Leadership Team to build staff capacity in the P-10 Curriculum (AC v9), senior school curriculum (GIL/QCIA).

To support the implementation of reading across the school, they will provide and support ongoing content-focused professional learning coupled with content-specific in class coaching and feedback. As a lead learner, they will need to have a strong relational capability to quickly develop positive relationships between students, staff and the wider school community. They will have well developed strategic thinking and analytical skills to contribute to our school improvement agenda.

Experience as a leader in implementing school-wide processes that are underpinned by a collegial engagement framework is sought, with demonstrated experience in enacting the Australian Curriculum, as well as supporting the needs of students with complex communication through Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
