About the Role: 

The Education Futures Institute is a key system initiative in the department's education strategy, Equity and Excellence: Realising the potential of every student, to empower departmental staff, educators, school and system leaders to build professional expertise through high quality, targeted capability development across their career. The Education Futures Institute delivers a suite of flagship programs that are comprehensive professional learning experiences targeted to career junctures. Program design is underpinned by professional standards and contemporary research aligned to the Department of Education's current and emerging strategic priorities and workforce needs. Programs aim to empower Queensland state school staff, educators and leaders and will be co-designed and delivered with internal and external partners, including academic, tertiary and industry leaders.

The flagship Middle Leader program provides participants with the opportunity to develop their expertise in leading improvement through contemporary educational research, contextualised leadership experiences and professional networks and mentoring opportunities.

Over the 12-month duration of the program, participants will engage in tailored residential workshops, mentoring and self-paced learning modules. The next cohort will commence the program in Term 1, 2025.

Applicants must seek principal endorsement to apply and participate in the program before submitting an application.

The Middle Leader Program is differentiated into cohorts that align with levels of experience. Applicants of this cohort of the program must be middle leaders that have been in the job for more than 3 years.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Applicants must be permanent teachers or school leaders with the Queensland Department of Education.
  • Applicants must possess full registration with the QLD College of Teachers.

The recruitment process will progress through 4 stages:

  • Employment eligibility - all applicants are required to be classified as middle leaders (Stream 2 - Class H01 and H02) within the Queensland Department of Education.
  • Your application submission - after obtaining principal endorsement, submit your brief resume, including 2 referees, responses to the questionnaire and principal endorsement form by clicking on the ‘apply online' button.
  • Selecting - referee checks and selection panel review
  • Notification of outcome - applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome. Please note, the notification process could take up to one month from the date applications close.
