About the Role

We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated Early Years Practitioner to join our popular, friendly nursery in York. This opportunity is open to both unqualified practitioners with relevant childcare experience and candidates holding a full and relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Early Years.

Our nursery is known locally for its warm, nurturing environment and strong partnerships with families. As part of our supportive team, you will help create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive space where children can learn, explore, and thrive.

Qualified practitioners may take on key person responsibilities, building secure relationships with children and supporting their individual learning journeys in line with the EYFS framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate activities in line with the EYFS

  • Encourage children's learning and development through play-based experiences

  • Contribute to observations, assessments, and learning records

  • Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of all children at all times

  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers, maintaining open and professional communication

  • Follow safeguarding and child protection policies consistently

  • Work collaboratively as part of a welcoming and supportive nursery team

  • Person Specification

    Essential:

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years qualification or relevant experience within an early years setting (for unqualified applicants)

  • Understanding of child development and the EYFS framework (or willingness to develop knowledge)

  • Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities

  • A nurturing, patient, and positive approach

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team

  • Desirable:

  • Paediatric First Aid (or willingness to complete training)

  • Experience as a key person

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
