In this role you will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of an enterprise workforce planning approach that supports the department's strategic priorities and future service delivery needs across schools, regions and central office.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for workforce planning across the department, ensuring frameworks, governance and practices align with the Public Sector Act 2022 and whole-of-government workforce planning expectations.
  • Deliver system-wide workforce insights and analysis to inform strategic decision making, including identifying workforce risks, capability gaps and critical roles required to sustain service delivery.
  • Provide high-level strategic advice to senior executives, including the Director-General and Minister, on complex workforce issues, emerging risks and long-term workforce sustainability.
  • Lead the development and monitoring of the department's workforce plan, ensuring alignment with departmental priorities and supporting schools and regions to undertake local workforce planning.
  • Build and maintain strong strategic partnerships across the department, including Workforce Analytics, HR Business Partners, regions and schools, to enable a coordinated and practical approach to workforce planning.
  • Drive the development and implementation of workforce planning tools, systems and processes that support consistent and effective workforce planning practices across the organisation.
  • Represent the department and maintain strategic relationships with external stakeholders, including the Public Sector Commission and other government agencies, to ensure alignment with best practice workforce planning and whole-of-government priorities.

Success in this role will require:

  • Demonstrated experience leading strategic workforce planning or workforce strategy initiatives within complex organisations.
  • Strong capability in workforce analytics, forecasting and evidence-based decision making.
  • Experience designing and implementing enterprise workforce planning frameworks, governance and tools.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, including providing strategic advice to senior executives.
  • Experience working across agencies, sectors or jurisdictions to identify and apply leading workforce planning practices.
  • Strong leadership capability with the ability to guide teams, build partnerships and deliver outcomes in complex environments.
