We are welcoming applications for the role of Director of Studies 7-12.

The Director of Studies 7-12 is a significant leadership role within our School. Reporting to the Head of High School, they are primarily focused on providing leadership in relation to the High School curriculum and encompasses responsibility for the academic care of all High School students, assisting with the leadership and management of all aspects of learning and teaching in the High School. It is the role of the Director of Studies 7-12 to guide best practice in the delivery of high quality teaching and learning programs.

About this opportunity

This is a full time, permanent position which sits on the High School Executive, as well as overseeing our Heads of Department, Careers Advisor, HSC Presiding Officer, and Assistant to the Director of Studies 7-12.

The Director of Studies 7-12 will work collaboratively with the Head of Teaching & Learning K-12 regarding specific directions in pedagogy and curriculum pertaining to High School, in line with the overall vision for teaching & learning at the School. They will contribute to data-informed decision making for continuous improvement in the School’s academic outcomes.

The Director of Studies 7-12 provides key leadership in areas affecting the academic program of the School and has responsibility for the smooth running of the High School academic program, including:

  • Lead teaching and learning in the High School, including oversight of all programs and curriculum for 7-12
  • Drive data-informed practices to support continuous improvement in academic outcomes.
  • Work closely with the Specialist Learning Centre, Gifted and Talented Team, Head of Library and Information Services, Director of Digital Learning Technologies and the Coordinator of Innovation to support teaching and learning in the High School
  • Oversee any issues relating to academics in the High School
  • Support the development of the High School timetable, in collaboration with the Timetable Coordinator
  • Work with the Head of Teaching & Learning K-12 and Heads of Department to determine the High School staffing allocations and timetable
  • Oversee academic reporting, examination and testing periods (including HSC, Trial HSC, Naplan, Allwell) and administration related to the curriculum

The Director of Students 7-12 is a member of the School’s teaching community and as such, will participate in the regular life of the School. They will undertake other duties of a teacher, such as those in relation to pastoral care, supervision of students, extra-curricular activities etc, as requested by the Principal. They will also undertake a teaching load of at least two classes per year.

About the Successful applicant

The successful applicant will have formal qualifications in education, preferably at a Masters level, and proven experience in a leadership role.

The Director of Students 7-12 will be an effective communicator, with highly refined leadership, organisational, and communication skills, along with knowledge of and experience Understanding of NSW 7-12 curriculum and educational best practices. They will model a personal commitment to lifelong learning and will place the care of each student as the highest priority, providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students – one that meets the needs of each individual.

They will also be an experienced, successful and qualified educator who is highly organised and professional, with a passion for ensuring the best possible educational outcomes for all students.

They will hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012. They will have a teaching qualification in any subject area and, at least, eligibility for registration with NSW Education Standards Authority.
