About TSS:
Transition Support Services (TSS) assists secondary school aged students and their families to attend, engage and achieve at partner boarding schools throughout Queensland. TSS employs Transition Support Officers (TSOs) and Transition Teachers to case manage and wrap support around students at boarding schools with staff and families to enable students to orientate to new learning and living environments and to manage transition related challenges. TSOs also assist students to engage with academic and community life, with taking up opportunities for growth and development and to maintain connection and contact with kin and country. The presence of Transition staff enable parents, carers and families to support their child or children to live away from home and to engage with secondary schooling, while managing transition-related challenges. Staff at boarding schools and residential facilities also utilise Transition staff to support them in working with students and families in ways that enable students to achieve their aspirations.
Your Opportunity:
As the Director of Transition Support Services you will play an essential role in developing the policy position for the Department of Education which will require extensive consultation including with community stakeholders, the non-government sector and the Australian Government. The Director Transition Support Services will lead and manage the Transition Support Services team during this period to ensure effective implementation of the DoE policy position once it is finalised.
Responsibilities include:
- Liaise with and provide expert advice to Executive Directors and Deputy Director-General, First Nations Strategy and Partnerships Division, Director-General and the Minister in relation to education issues, trends and emerging schooling issues for Queensland and Australia.
- Liaise with executive management and senior officers on policy and operational issues and manage the development and coordination of key internal and external relationships with statutory authorities.
- Consult, liaise and negotiate the provision of information for high level corporate reporting and policy activities requiring an integrated response across the branch and department.
- Establish and maintain networks and liaise with senior officers and representatives in a range of government and non-government agencies on a diverse range of complex education and curriculum issues.
- Oversee project teams and undertake planning, analysis, development and evaluation of significant stages of projects for the purpose of the achievement of strategic initiatives and objectives that inform the future position of the department.
- Provide direction, guidance and leadership to officers within First Nations Strategy and Partnerships Division, to ensure delivery of high quality and responsive advice on policy, strategic planning, reporting, coordination and evaluation services provided by First Nations Strategy and Partnerships Division.
- Oversee the management of human resources, financial and physical resources.
