Your Role:
The primary purpose of this role is to lead and manage a multidisciplinary team to deliver large scale reforms and programs successfully, including budget and reporting responsibilities. This role directs and supports important work across programs in strategy, policy and governance, and is critical to supporting the Executive Director and Deputy Director-General Early Childhood.
Responsibilities include:
As the Director you will be:
- Leading the day-to-day program management of high-profile initiatives, including the Kindy uplift program and the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) 2024 collection.
- Provide expert and independent strategic advice, including preparation of strategy initiatives, cabinet submissions, policy responses, speeches, articles and briefings for the Minister, Director-General and members of the Strategic Management Team for use in decision making.
- Represent the department at negotiations in a variety of high level forums and advocate on issues relating to broader government priorities for early childhood.
- Establish and maintain effective networks and partnerships to ensure strong commitment to implementation of policy and programs, agreed systemic reforms and policy implications of submissions to the Minister and Director-General.
- Develop, implement and review frameworks, systems and processes to ensure effective implementation of government priorities in early childhood.
- Having oversight of teams, budgets and contracts to deliver quality outcomes.
- Fostering a challenging, equitable, ethical and safe work environment for staff which encourages commitment, skills development and professional growth and continuous improvement.
- Providing timely, accurate and well researched advice, briefings, reports, correspondence and submissions on the delivery of the programs.
About You:
While there are no mandatory requirements, the following would be beneficial for the successful candidate to possess:
- Experience in leading large-scale reforms in a large Government department.
- Highly developed data analysis and written communication skills.
- Experience in time management and multi-tasking across a range of disciplines and projects.
- Knowledge of, or ability to quickly acquire, Government policies and processes.
- Exemplary standards of diplomacy, discretion, personal integrity and confidentiality.
- Significant ability to be innovative and identify creative solutions to complex issues.
