Design Technology Technician Required - Secondary School - Haringey

A well-established and highly regarded secondary school in Haringey is seeking an experienced and proactive Design Technology Technician to join its successful Design & Technology department.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician with experience supporting practical lessons within a secondary school environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of workshops and specialist teaching spaces, helping students to develop practical skills safely and effectively.

The Role

As a Design Technology Technician, you will support teaching staff and students across a range of DT disciplines by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and ensuring workshop areas meet all health and safety requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

Preparing materials, tools and equipment for practical lessons

Maintaining workshops and specialist teaching spaces

Operating and maintaining machinery and technical equipment

Supporting students and staff during practical activities where required

Monitoring stock levels and ordering materials and resources

Carrying out routine maintenance and repairs to equipment

Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations

Maintaining accurate records of equipment checks and risk assessments

Supporting the department with displays, exhibitions and project work

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a candidate who has:

Previous experience working as a Design Technology Technician within a secondary school

Knowledge of workshop machinery, tools and equipment

Experience supporting areas such as Resistant Materials, Product Design, Engineering or Construction

Strong understanding of health and safety legislation within a workshop environment

Excellent organisational and time management skills

The ability to work independently and as part of a team

A proactive, flexible and solution-focused approach

Desirable:

First Aid qualification

Experience using laser cutters, CNC machines or CAD/CAM equipment

Relevant technical qualifications
