About this job

Position Information

Hay War Memorial High School is a 6-point, comprehensive, rural high school proudly serving the Hay and surrounding community since 1923, on the land of the Wiradjuri and Nari Nari people. There are currently 145 students in the school, with a projected enrolment of 156 in 2025.  19.3 % of our students have an Aboriginal heritage. The school has a single Specialist Support Class catering to students with multi-categorical disabilities. The school is unique in being the only war memorial high school in the Commonwealth of Nations and was established by the community following the end of World War I. The traditions and culture of the school are deeply founded in the expectations of the community. Our school excels in sporting endeavours and agricultural opportunities, in addition to debating and community connection initiatives. The school delivers a compressed curriculum to ensure maximum access to subjects for our students. Hay War Memorial High promotes Positive Behaviours for Learning to support a respectful, responsible and achievement-based focus for students. It is well regarded in the community for its positive learning environment, strong student wellbeing, leadership opportunities, and engagement programs that nurture students to connect, thrive, and succeed. The explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy skills including the use of the learning progressions and formative assessment to monitor progress is integral to driving school priorities. Unearthing student potential, developing the talent and wellbeing programs are initiatives aimed at providing challenge and opportunity for students to flourish. High-impact professional learning for staff that is underpinned by research is key to building the expertise in staff for continuous improvement and leadership.
