Are you a visionary leader passionate about shaping young minds? Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where relationships with parents, teachers, and students are at the heart of educational success? If so, we invite you to join us.

Mount Scopus Memorial College is a co-educational Jewish School from Early Learning to Year 12 across three campuses; St Kilda East, Caulfield South, and Burwood.

As an International Baccalaureate World School, offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), we value collaboration, effective communication, critical thinking, problem solving, risk taking and creativity in both our students and staff.  Our philosophy of learning and teaching is inquiry-based, concept driven and transdisciplinary.

Being Jewish is not a prerequisite for employment, although a worldview that is sympathetic to the Jewish and Zionist ethos is essential.

Owing to the retirement of Greg Hannon, Deputy Principal, Primary, the College is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual to lead the Primary School, across all three College campuses - Gandel Besen House (St Kilda East), Fink Karp Ivany (Caulfield South), and Smorgon Family Primary School (Gandel Campus, Burwood) to commence during the 2025 academic year.  The college is open to discussion on when this date might be.

As our Deputy Principal Primary, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the future of our students while working within a supportive and dedicated community. We offer a competitive salary, significant benefits, professional development opportunities, and a vibrant work environment where your leadership will make a lasting impact.

This role reports directly to the College Principal, Mr Dan Sztrajt.

Participating as a key member of the College Executive Leadership Team, and chairing the Primary Leadership Team, the Deputy Principal Primary will support the pastoral, academic, and co-curricular life of the students and families of the Primary School.  With direct oversight and decision-making in the management of the Primary School, and acting as a key point of contact for parents - addressing concerns and celebrating achievements together -  you will be results-driven and will work collaboratively across the Primary School and with the Executive Leadership Team.

The overall focus of the role is to continue the positive collaboration and interactions with members of the College community - building and maintaining relationships with staff, students and families. You will be responsible for driving change, focussing on continual improvement, and building on and enhancing the reputation of the Primary School.

As the representative of the College Principal for the entire Primary School, you will have a depth of experience in assisting, advising, supporting, problem-solving, referring, and engaging with other staff to support students and their families.

You will have proven management and leadership skills, experience in school administration, and be a strong leader, with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.  You will hold registration with VIT, and have experience in budget management, and resource planning and will have experience in a similar role.

Although this role does not have a teaching allotment, it is envisaged that the successful applicant will have a current VIT and will be able to teach classes on an ad-hoc basis.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • VIT registration.

  • Proven experience in educational leadership, preferably within a primary school setting.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • A commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive school environment.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

  • A passion for education and a genuine interest in the well-being of children.

  • A commitment to the safeguarding of children.
