Position Information

Penrith Public School, with a rich 160 year history, has a current enrolment of 502 students, 42 of these students are in the Hearing and Multi-categorical support classes. Enrolments are predominantly of English-speaking background with an increasing number of students from other backgrounds (48 nationalities), with largest representation from Asian and Arabic speaking countries; there is a significant Aboriginal enrolment (64 students). Enrolment numbers are steadily increasing due to housing developments in the school intake area. There are significant socio-economic variations within the Penrith drawing area.

Our goals of student growth and attainment and our focus on wellbeing, community and student engagement underpin our everyday operations at Penrith Public School. The school motto 'Forward with Pride' reflects our emphasis on positive self-esteem and resilience. Students are provided with the opportunity to develop their interests and abilities and to succeed at their personal best through extra programs in academic, sporting, cultural and performing arts areas.

The position is on review and any teacher placed permanently into this position may be given a Nominated Transfer if enrolments do not increase above 516 for the 2027 school year.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria:

 

  • Approval to teach infants and/or primary

 

  • Demonstrated instructional leadership through the strategic use of data, evaluative practice and evidence-informed processes to drive sustained academic and personal growth aligned to the School Excellence Plan.

 

  • Strong understanding of and demonstrated experience leading curriculum priorities including HPGE through innovative programs, partnerships and extension opportunities that enrich student learning.

 

  • Demonstrated ability of leadership in developing and sustaining inclusive, policy-aligned practices that promote positive behaviour and respectful relationships across the school, supporting students, staff and families.

 

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
