Position Information
Newtown High School of the Performing Arts is a partially selective (Dance, Music and Drama), co-educational, comprehensive school located on Gadigal Land 5 kms southwest of Sydney CBD. The student population is approximately 1155. The school is strongly supported by an active and engaged Parents and Citizens Association as well as the broader community. General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
- High level knowledge and skills to lead and promote a school culture of high expectations through school wide professional learning, including high potential and gifted education strategies within the context of a partially selective performing arts high school.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to work collaboratively as a member of the school’s senior executive team to build staff capacity in curriculum and assessment and through the creation of a collaborative culture focused on the school’s strategic directions and priorities.
- Proven outstanding leadership capacity, knowledge and skills in the management of complex individual student learning and wellbeing needs, as well as the everyday competing demands as a member of the senior executive ensuring student social-emotional wellbeing and academic success at a whole-school level.
- A highly visible and approachable leader with proven ability to foster a positive, inclusive school culture through authentic relationships with students, staff, parents/caregivers, and the wider community, while ensuring whole school policy compliance and teaching and learning excellence.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
