Position Information

The Deputy Principal Inclusion and Support is a strategic, non-teaching, leadership role dedicated to inclusion, with a focus on leading improvement in the learning, wellbeing, and independence of students with disabilities. The Deputy Principal Inclusion and Support shares the broader educational imperatives of the Deputy Principal position but with the explicit focus of driving a school wide culture of inclusion, including high expectations and improved outcomes for students with disability.

The roles are located in mainstream schools with seven or more support classes and are aligned to the Department's Deputy Principal role statement, emphasising: Leading Teaching & Learning, Developing Self & Others, Leading Improvement, Innovation & Change, Leading the Management of the School, Engaging & Working with the Community.

Glendale Technology High School is a comprehensive high school, located in the City of Lake Macquarie, near Newcastle. Embracing its mission “Educate for Life”. It is a rapidly growing school, with an enrolment of 863 comprising more than 22% Aboriginal and 5% from language backgrounds other than English. The school prides itself on its strong partnerships both within the educational community and industry. It’s a proud member of the Glendale Education Alliance (GEA) strengthening connections with its partner schools, Kumaridah AECG and the Parents & Citizens’ Association.It works closely with TAFE NSW and local businesses, offering vocational education and training pathways and preparing students for in‑demand skills. Its supportive Special Education Unit, comprising 9 classes, consisting of ED, MC, and IO classes, ensures inclusive education for all.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. Demonstrated capacity to lead and sustain a whole-school culture of inclusion, equity and high expectations, applying the NSW Department of Education’s Inclusion Statement to support the learning and wellbeing of students with disability.

     

  2. Demonstrated expertise and successful experience in taking a strategic approach to support students with disability through evidence-informed or data driven practices, including building staff capacity to implement effective adjustments and differentiated support to improve student outcomes.
  3. Demonstrated ability to build strong collaborative relationships with students, families, staff and external agencies to develop, implement, monitor and refine reasonable adjustments and transition pathways that maximise student learning and wellbeing.
  4. Demonstrated ability to use data and evaluative practices to inform strategic planning, monitor student growth and wellbeing, and drive continuous improvement in outcomes for students with disability.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
