About Cleveland Education & Training Centre (CETC)

Cleveland Education & Training Centre (CETC) is a Department of Education school, operating within the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre at Townsville. The catchment area for the Centre comprises the area graphically north from Rockhampton, west to the border and Island communities off the Queensland coastline.

CETC offers a range of pathways and employment focussed VET courses to assist a young person to close individual skills gaps, develop language, develop positive behaviours and social skills and gain knowledge and skills which are a prerequisite for further study or a pathway to employment. Younger students study programs aligned to the Australian Curriculum, designed to assist them to return to mainstream schooling.

Our staff have the responsibility to build trusting relationships with the young people, to encourage them to achieve success and self-respect, to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will help them make positive life choices and open up pathways where they can be reintegrated into society as successful citizens.

About the Role

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Principal to lead the school community to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Deputise for the Principal when required.
  • Uphold the deputy principalship as a values based, ethical and moral activity.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
